ISTU 2009 thanks its invited guest speakers!

This year, the ISTU 2009 organization was really honored to welcome worldwide known experts on HIFU, ultrasound therapies and innovative minimally invasise surgical techniques. Dr Feng Wu exposed a global clinical vision of the role of the HIFU technology, and 5 technical aspects of HIFU were presented: the transducers by Dr Pierre Khuri-Yakub, the ultrasound guidance for HIFU by Dr Gail Ter Haar, the MR guidance for HIFU by Dr Bruno Quesson, the dosimetry of HIFU by Dr William O'Brien and finally the cavitation effects by Dr Larry Crum.
While Dr Gerald Harris talked about the HIFU regulatory challenges, clinical applications were addressed during two key lectures: prostate by Dr Mark Emberton and brain by Dr Neal Kassel.
To give a complete overview on brain minimally invasive treatments, Dr Alexandre Carpentier reported his experience of laser-induced brain tissue necrosis. As another example of HIFU potential applications, Dr Stephen Meairs focused on sonothrombolysis.
